One of our simulation tools
SCModeling: design the supply network, optimize it, then prove it by simulation
When the question is where to make, store and ship, and whether the plan holds up when demand and lead times move, we often reach for SCModeling. Optimization and simulation work on the same model, so the network we recommend is the network we tested.
What it does
One model, from network design to day-by-day behavior
Most network studies stop at an optimized annual plan. SCModeling keeps going: the same model runs as a simulation, day by day, with real ordering rules, lead times and demand swings, so you see whether the optimized network delivers.
- Sourcing Optimization: which plant or supplier serves which customer, at the lowest total cost.
- Siting Optimization: how many facilities, and where, from your own customer and demand data.
- Inventory Optimization: safety stock and reorder points by location and product.
- Supply Chain Simulation: the chosen network run through time, so service level and inventory are measured, not assumed.

Open your .sgm models as they are
SCModeling reads Supply Chain Guru model files directly, with no export step and no Guru license. Years of network models stay usable, and you can optimize and simulate them again.
Choosing the tool
When we use SCModeling, and when we don't
We are tool agnostic. SCModeling is one of the tools we know from the inside, next to ExtendSim® and our own Supply Chain Builder.
SCModeling
Network design questions: sourcing, facility locations, inventory targets, cost to serve. Planning teams can run it themselves after we hand it over.
Supply Chain Builder
Detailed supply chain simulation built from small, general blocks, when the network's own rules don't fit a template.
ExtendSim
Custom logic and custom blocks, or a supply chain tied to a detailed plant model.
Where it came from
Built on our supply chain work since the late 1990s
We have built supply chain models for large companies since the 1990s, first one at a time and then with our own Supply Chain Builder. SCModeling brings network optimization and that simulation work into one tool.
SCModeling is a product of ChiAha, the company SDI spun off in 2024 to build software. SDI uses it in projects. You can try it, and license it, at scmodeling.com.
Tell us your problem
Redesigning a network, or sitting on old Guru models?
Tell us about the network: plants, warehouses, customers and the decision in front of you. We'll tell you whether SCModeling, Supply Chain Builder or ExtendSim fits the question.
- A straight answer on whether simulation is the right tool
- Which tool fits, even if it isn't one we use every day
- A rough scope and timeline, before any commitment
